With a car in place, I needed another element to my project. Something subversive. Something fun.
A few weeks ago I was fortunate enough to witness the Shepard Fairey exhibit at the ICA in Boston. Though probably most famous now for his Obama Hope poster, what I found amazing is how his prolific portfolio started from that Andre the Giant sticker.
As an homage to Shepard, I would do my own sticker. I did a variation on the phrase "Andre the Giant has a Posse." Mine was: "I have a TT!" and meant to make fun of people who always try to talk about how cool their car is in every conversation (they know who they are).
When I told T about the trip, she mentioned wanting to join me for part of it. I did an initial sketch:
I then grabbed some photos from the web, ran some halftone filters, and adjusted some type until I eventually got:
That was it. These would go everywhere.
I saw the exhibit in boston and loved it. Got an awesome new t-shirt as well with one of his designs
