Handling the layoff announcement wasn't easy, but I knew I had to put myself onto a new project once my last one was complete.
I thought driving across the country, from Chicago to San Francisco, would be a good one.
Renting a car was too pricey, so I looked into something I thought was merely an urban legend: driving someone else's car from one city to another.
After some web searching, I read about a company called Autodriveway, and called their Chicago office. Yes, they were in the business of shipping cars (usually multiple via trailer truck), but occasionally they get requests for individual ones that civilians can sign up for. I gave them my information.
When I followed up the week after, the conversation went like this::
"Well, we're sorry we've got nothing from the midwest going up to San Francisco."
"Oh."
"But we do have this one vehicle that needs to get to L.A. Venice, California."
"Oh?"
"Yeah, but it's not San Francisco."
"That would work fine, actually. I can just take a short plane flight up."
"Would that be OK?"
"Yeah, that's fine. What kind of car is it?"
"It's an Audi TT."
Hello, roadtrip.
Wow, that's gonna be fun. I own an Audi TT and, so far, it's the best reasonably-priced sports car that I've ever driven. It's sleek but also sophisticated. And it's one heck of a speed demon too, hehe. Perfect for petrolheads like me.

Audi TT is as good to drive as it is to look at. It's beautifully built. The cheaper models are surprisingly affordable to own as well.
