I try not to wax poetic about art unless it strikes me in some deep, significant way. Above is something that did just that: a preview to a show that Edwin Ushiro is having at Project: Gallery in Culver City, California. This collection showcases his amazing work, and after reading about it I realized what makes it so intriguing.
It turns out that Edwin is a Maui native. From Juxtapoz:
The concept for While Tides Guide You Back Home is inspired by Ushiro’s feelings of regret after leaving his native Hawaii. Often wondering how life would have been different had he remained on Maui, he creates a body of work evoking childhood memories, both real and imagined. He portrays these moments through dreamlike sequences in multimedia paintings where he re-writes and re-interprets his own childhood memories in a fusion of traditional and digital artistic techniques.
From the collection, I find
the most fascinating:The emotions and memories it brings push me into the belief that at $3500, it's a steal. Although, I will consider both the prints and maybe even the wallpaper before making such a decision. Wow.
